President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the appointment of some key members of the Peoples Democratic Party as Chairmen of the Governing Councils of some federal universities, with three weeks left for his administration. While a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is the Chairman, Governing Council of Federal University in Kashere, Gombe State; a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-Minister of State for Defence, Chief Olusola Obada, heads the Governing Council of the Federal University in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

Workers, under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (NUPENGASSAN), have challenged the new GMD of NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to recover the stolen trillions of Naira in the oil and gas sector rather than retiring and sacking innocent workers. The workers claimed that the fight against corruption should not be turned against workers whom government have sworn to protect NUPENGASSAN, in a statement signed by the NUPENG President, Comrade Igwe Achese, and his PENGASSAN counterpart, Comrade Francis Johnson, in Lagos, at the weekend, said the two unions in the oil and gas sector have reservations about the approach of government to the reform programme in the oil and gas industry without carrying the two unions along in the process.
