The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, last week freed no fewer than 38 inmates, who were awaiting trials in the five prison facilities across the state. The prisons are located in Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu and Ijebu Ode. This story was  first published by THE PUNCH newspaper. She said she ought to have embarked on the visitation to the prisons much earlier, but for the strike embarked upon by judiciary workers in the state.

Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods and his girlfriend, US Olympic skiing champion Lindsey Vonn, say they have ended their relationship. Both blamed the pressure of their busy schedules for the split.  Ms Vonn said on Facebook that the decision was mutual. In a statement on his website, Mr Woods said he would "always cherish our time together".

Arsène Wenger is not planning drastic changes to his squad this summer because he is convinced they have made real progress this season. Arsenal are well-placed to finish second in the Premier League for the first time in a decade and have reached their second successive FA Cup final. The troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a man said to be a supplier of fuel and food to members of the Boko Haram sect at Daban Shata, a suburb of Baga, Borno State. Director of Defence Information, Maj. gen. Chris Olukolade, said the military intelligence had been on the trail of the man until he was picked up on Sunday. The Defence spokesman stated that the soldiers also rescued an additional 260 women and children near Chalawa Village in Adamawa State.

A survey exercise on the prevalence of Soil Transmitted Helminthes (STH), a health condition that is caused by a group of worms (aran inu), which exist as parasites in the intestine of infected people will be carried out in Ekiti State between Tuesday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Results of the nine days survey, which is sponsored by Children Investment Fund Found ation (CIFF) in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), Federal Ministry of Health and Ekiti State Ministry of Health will be used by the Ekiti State Ministry of Health to receive free drugs from the World Health Organisation through the Federal Ministry of Health.

The authorities in Congo-Brazzaville have banned people from wearing the full-face Islamic veil, including the niqab and the burka, in public places.  They have also banned Muslims from other countries spending nights in mosques.

Troops and emergency aircraft from the United States have arrived in Nepal to help deliver aid to remote areas hit by last week's devastating earthquake. Relief efforts near the epicentre have been hampered by a lack of aircraft.

The Federal Government on Sunday called on oil marketers to be patriotic in their decisions by considering the interest of Nigerians who always bear the brunt of their actions, noting that they should not by their actions hold the country to ransom. The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, while speaking with journalists in Abuja said contrary to claims by the marketers that they were being owed about N200bn after being paid N156bn last week, what is being owed them is about N131bn.

A Nepali police team has pulled out the bodies of about 50 people, including some foreign trekkers, from an avalanche-hit area, officials said on Sunday, as the death toll from last month’s devastating earthquake climbed to over 7 000. None of the bodies have been identified, said Pravin Pokharel, deputy superintendent of police in the northern district of Rasuwa. Pokharel, who led the police team, said the bodies were pulled out on Saturday, a week after the earthquake, and rescuers would return to the remote area on Sunday.
