We can’t afford extravagant inauguration ceremony,’ APC says

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it has no plans to hold a flamboyant inauguration ceremony for President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC further explained that the ceremony would be low-key because the country can’t afford an elaborate ceremony.

This was disclosed on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, by the Chairman of the APC Transition Committee, Timipre Sylva.

“There are no challenges, we are planning very well and I think we are going to give Nigerians a compact inauguration,” Sylva said while speaking to journalists in Abuja.

“We are not going to be flamboyant. We think that this country cannot afford a flamboyant ceremony this time because the economy is not in good shape right now. So we are actually planning to give Nigerians a sanitized and compact event which will be a source of pride to Nigerians,” he added.

Sylva also denied reports of a rift between the incoming and the outgoing government.

President Goodluck Jonathan will hand over to Buhari on Friday, May 29, 2015.
