Dallas Prophet cartoon attack: Suspected gunmen 'named'

Authorities have identified the suspected gunmen who attacked an event in Dallas exhibiting cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, US media say. Officials have named them as Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, according to the New York Times and the Washington Post newspapers.

Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, disowned Ekiti APC Youths Congress (EAYC)

The Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Femi Ogundare, has disowned Ekiti APC Youths Congress (EAYC) that criticised APC lawmakers for not attending a peace meeting called by Chief Afe Babalola, saying the group does not exist within the party structure. He described the group as a creation of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, who he alleged had been using the group as authentic APC group opposed to all actions taken so far by the party in the last few months.

Ministerial List: APC govs submit names

Submission of names for ministerial slots in the incoming government has begun in earnest, Olajuwon Obalola's blog   learnt on Monday. The process, it was learnt, followed a directive by the president-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari to the governors on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC to forward the names of candidates. Three names from each states are to be submitted.

Fayose: Omirin asks court to drop anti-impeachment suit

Embattled Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Adewale Omirin, has challenged the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop 19 Ekiti State Lawmakers belonging to All Progressives Congress, APC, from impeaching the Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose. Omirin has therefore asked Justice Evoh Chukwu to hands-off the anti-impeachment suit that was lodged before the court by seven seven members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Ekiti State House of Assembly‎. ‎The plaintiffs in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/3612015, are the seven- Dele Olugbemi Joseph, Ajibola Samuel Oyedele, Israel Olowo, Hon. Alex Ade Ojo, Adeyinka Adeloye, Adunni Modupe Olayinka and Ayoka Fatunmbi.

NNPC resumes oil search in Chad Basin

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it was set to resume oil search in the Chad Basin following the remarkable improvement in the security situation in the North-Eastern Nigeria. This is contained in a statement by Mr Ohi Alegbe, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, on Monday in Abuja. The statement said the Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Joseph Dawha, made the announcement at the 21st Annual General Meeting of Integrated Data Services Nigeria Limited (IDSL).

BREAKING NEWS: Niger govt. sack political appointees

The Niger State government has announced the termination of the appointment of political appointees and dissolution of State Boards with effect from May 1. A statement issued on Monday in Minna by Alhaji Saidu Kpaki, Secretary to the state government, said the measure was aimed at ensuring smooth transition and proper handing over to the new administration.

The House of Representatives on Monday summoned the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, for failing to appear in respect of an ongoing investigation into alleged rice import duty evasion by some importers in the country.   Some of the importers allegedly exceeded their import quota, but reportedly did not pay duties of over N3.5bn under a Federal Government import policy targeted at encouraging local production of rice.
