Facebook offers a number of products and tools to individuals and companies to help them reach new audiences and grow their businesses. Facebook Pages and groups being cases in point - these products, Pages more so, drove businesses to the social giant in large numbers. Today, it's pretty much expected that your business will have a presence on Facebook. But which one is best for brand promotion - a Facebook Page or a Facebook group? Before you decide, let’s take an in-depth look at both to ascertain their strengths.

Facebook continues to push their updates to Messenger. Last week, at their annual F8 conference, The Social Network unveiled the much-anticipated Messenger Bot Store, which will enable businesses to build their own automated response bots on the Messenger platform. The week before that Facebook announced a raft of new connection features, including Page usernames and Messenger Codes to facilitate faster connection. There’s also been the addition of new video chat heads, a new integration with KLM on flight details, integration with Dropbox for file sharing – the updates have been coming thick and fast. And they don’t look to be slowing anytime soon – today, via a Facebook post, Vice President of Messaging Products David Marcus has announced the global roll-out of group calling in Messenger.

Social media platforms come and go just like any other trend. Today I’m going to dive into one of my favorite social media platforms: Instagram.  Let’s start with a brief background on this engine and see how they got to where they are today.  Started on October 6 of 2010, the platform picked up a million users in its first two months and was destined to be a major player from its humble beginnings. In less than a year, they earned their 150 th  millionth upload. In September of 2011, the company released version 2.0 and less than a week after that announcement, the company announced that they'd reached 10 million users. 

As someone who makes his living teaching professionals how to utilize LinkedIn to generate more business for themselves, I remain convinced that the platform is one of the most exciting - and misunderstood - business opportunities available right now. For whatever reason, LinkedIn can't seem to shake the notion that it's "only" a place to find a job or hire a new employee. But as I've learned spending 48 straight months selling products and services on the site, LinkedIn is one of the biggest (and best) opportunities online right now for you to generate oodles of sales leads, add new clients and land new business.

Whether you're playing with sticks in the backyard or building a Twitter presence, the old adage "it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye" couldn't be more true. Oh yes dear readers, don't fool yourselves. Social media marketing may seem relatively harmless and quaint, but there are oh so many ways it can all go wrong. Instagram certainly rocked the social marketing boat these last couple of weeks with their announcement that your feed will soon be curated by an algorithm instead of by which accounts you follow and when they upload. Suddenly, everyone was drowning in requests to “turn on notifications if you still want to see my posts”, which mostly resulted in an unpleasant barrage of notifications on your phone. In the panic, Instagram cautioned everyone to calm down, that testing phase isn’t over yet, and an official rollout won’t happen for months.  But on the heels of that announcement came Instagram’s video play. Previously, their videos for regular users were limited to 15 seconds. Now, a wide rollout is planned for 60-second videos. Why the big jump? Well, people are watching a whole lot more video, for one. Engadget reports that the number of people watching video on Instagram jumped 40% in the last six months.

It wasn’t too long ago that marketing your business online all by yourself, using just a few minutes of free time you shaved from your lunch break each day, seemed feasible. This woman with a heart of gold goes from house to house in Makoko community, a slum located in Lagos recruiting less privileged children to get an education.
