Football legend Pele set to visit Nigeria

Brazilian football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, will visit Nigeria this month after his initial visit that was set for August failed for health reasons.

Pele’s visit is part of a two-day programme that is aimed at developing football among the Nigerian youth.

During his visit, there will also be an auction of some memorabilia, from which the accrued proceeds will be donated to Kanu Nwankwo Foundation and the City of David Football Academy.

Pele is well known for many achievements including scoring 1,281 goals in his professional career and receiving an honourary knighthood from Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.

He was, among others, named ‘Athlete of the Century’ and ‘Player of the Century’ by the International Olympic Committee and Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
